How Guard U collects, uses and protects your personal information

Guard U connects users with participating private security providers. Guard U is not a replacement for police, ambulance, fire or other public emergency services. In a life-threatening emergency, contact the appropriate public emergency service.

1. Who we are

Guard U is an on-demand platform that connects customers with vetted, licensed private security companies and officers for guarding, distance escort and SOS response. [REQUIRES LEGAL APPROVAL — registered entity name, registration number and physical address.]

2. Information we collect

Based on Guard U's actual data flows, we collect and process the following categories:

  • Account information: name, email address, mobile number, and account identifiers.
  • Location (customers): precise location when you request a service or activate SOS, shared with the responding company and assigned officer during the active service.
  • Live location (officers): during an active assignment your live position is shared with your control room and, where relevant, the customer, to enable dispatch and backup.
  • Saved addresses, emergency contacts and favourites.
  • Booking and service history: service type, location, times, status and assigned officers.
  • SOS information and media: the emergency type, your location, notes, and any photos, video or audio you upload as evidence, shared with the responding company and authorised officers.
  • Payments and wallet: transaction records, wallet balance and ledger entries. Card data is processed by our payment provider; Guard U does not store full card numbers.
  • Communications: in-app chat messages between you, assigned officers and the responding company.
  • Ratings and reviews.
  • Company and officer information: PSIRA registration, grade, armed status, certifications and operational data, for vetted security companies and officers.
  • Device and session information: device name, approximate location and last-active time for login history.

3. How we use your information

To provide and operate the service — matching you with security providers, dispatching officers, live tracking, payments, refunds, incident handling, safety and fraud prevention, and legal compliance. [REQUIRES LEGAL APPROVAL — full lawful-basis statement under POPIA and applicable law.]

4. Who we share it with

  • Assigned security companies and officers receive the information needed to perform the service (your location, service details, SOS media, and your name/contact where necessary).
  • Payment processor (Paystack) processes card payments. Stripe is retained as a legacy fallback.
  • Mapping provider (Google) receives origin/destination coordinates for routing and ETA.
  • Officers do not receive platform commission, settlement or other customers' financial details.

5. Retention

Personal information no longer required is deleted or anonymized. Booking, payment, refund, SOS, incident, audit-log, wallet and chat records are retained for the periods required by law and operational policy, then hard-deleted. [REQUIRES LEGAL APPROVAL — the explicit retention schedule for each record category.]

6. Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information. You can start account deletion from in-app Settings → Account Management, or see the Account Deletion page.

7. Security

Access to records is enforced by row-level security. Payment amounts are server- authoritative. Payment and webhook secrets remain server-side. Admin registration is not public. API keys for mapping/routing are used server-side where applicable.

8. Children

Guard U is not directed to children. [REQUIRES LEGAL APPROVAL — minimum age and verification approach.]

9. Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our practices change. [REQUIRES LEGAL APPROVAL — notification approach.]
